Tribunes Sweep Delaware Tech, Start Season 2-0

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Monroe Community College Tribunes baseball team started their 2024 campaign with two wins over Delaware Technical Community College in as many days. Here are the results and some highlights from both games.

The Tribunes began the day by putting up one run in the first inning. The lead would not last though as Delaware Tech would quickly score a run of their own in the first inning to tie the game. The match would remain a 1-1 stalemate for the next four and a half innings until Delaware Tech broke the tie with a run in the fifth inning taking a 2-1 lead. The Tribunes would rally in the sixth inning with two runs to take a 3-2 lead. The Tribunes managed to hold onto the one-run lead to victory by a final score of 3-2.

Evan Brock went 1-2 at the plate with a home run and 2 RBIs. Joe Grzeskowiak went 1-3 at the plate and had 2 stolen bases. Thomas Rebis had an RBI on a sacrifice fly. Lucas Brown went 1-2 at the plate with a single. Joe Wintermute, Tobey Wright, and Julien Mendoza all had one stolen base each. Zach Allen pitched 4.1 innings facing 20 batters, giving up two hits, two earned runs, walking five, and striking out six.

Game Two 3/9/24

The bats came alive for the Tribunes in their second outing against Delaware Tech totaling 19 hits and 18 runs in seven innings. The Tribunes started strong, scoring four runs in the first inning while Delaware Tech only managed one run leaving the score 4-1 after one. Both squads traded blows, scoring three runs each in the second bringing the score to 7-4 after two. Delaware Tech would not score again for the rest of the day. The Tribunes put up four runs in the third inning, none in the fourth, one in the fifth, four in the sixth, and two in the seventh innings to bring the final score to 18-4.

Tobey Wright went 4-5 from the plate with two singles, a double, a home run, and 4 RBIs. Brody Froman went 3-5 from the plate with two singles, a double, and an RBI. Joe Wintermute went 3-5 from the plate with a single, a double, a homerun, an RBI, and a stolen base. Evan Brock went 2-5 from the plate with two singles and 2 RBIs. Conner Sackett went 2-5 from the plate with two singles and a stolen base. Alex Simons went 1-3 from the plate with a single and had two stolen bases. Thomas Rebis went 1-3 from the plate with a three-run home run, had one stolen base, and 3 RBIs. Parker Zieser went 1-4 from the plate with a four-run home run and had 4 RBIs. Paul Fiene went 1-1 from the plate with a two-run home run and had 2 RBIs. Kaleb Juliano went 1-1 from the plate with a single.
