Deromanis Earns All-Region / All-Conference Honors, Tribunes Finish Sixth at Region III Championships
Monroe Community College's cross country team delivered a strong showing at the Region 3 Championships, led by freshman Kyle Deromanis.
HERKIMER, NY - At the NJCAA Region 3 Championships, Monroe Community College runners put in a strong effort, finishing sixth in the men's team standings with a combined time of 3:36:39. Leading Monroe was freshman Kyle DeRomanis (Churchville, NY), who placed 7th overall with a time of 30:18.4. Freshman Benjamin Brundage (Hamlin, NY) also contributed a solid performance, finishing 13th at 32:30.5. Freshman Jacob Schindler (Greece, NY) came in at 35:46.0, placing 26th. Rounding out Monroe's team were KC Healy-Reagans (Rochester, NY) in 34th at 47:55.4 and Corey Maltsev (Henrietta, NY) in 36th at 1:10:06.3, completing Monroe's lineup for the meet.
Coach Gruttadauro described the competition as "solid," praising the team performance of Onondaga CC, Erie CC, and Hudson Valley CC for their scores. In terms of the course description, Coach Gruttadauro said the course was fast with rolling hills which presented challenges and exposed weaknesses, but also had good footing.
Due to his success, DeRomanis earned all-region and all-conference honors. Additionally, Kyle and Ben will race in the NJCAA Cross Country and NJCAA Half-Marathon National Championships. These boys will look to build on the performances of their first two meets as they travel to Virginia in pursuit of more national success.
