Stifiling defense leads Tribunes past Cougars

ROCHESTER - MCC held Genesee to 24 percent shooting and forced 26 turnovers to key a 95-38 victory in a women's basketball game Saturday.
The Tribunes (17-3) had four players in double figures, led by Bailey Hixson's 17. The freshman connected on five 3-pointers for the second straight game and also pulled down seven boards.
Monroe jumped out to a 49-21 lead at the break, holding the Cougars to just 5-for-24 from the floor over the first 20 minutes. Hixson hit four of her 3's over that span, and Ayana Ratliff added eight points, four assists, and four rebounds as the Tribunes built the big advantage.
Dionne Coe took over the main scoring role in the second half for MCC, hitting a trio of 3's and tallying all 16 of her points.
Rose Ayala finished with 12 points and eight rebounds, and Tyra Jones added 12 points, five steals, and four boards for Monroe. Ratliff finished with seven assists, five rebounds, and three steals.
Ratliff and Fannisha Price scored eight points apiece.
