Huge second half vaults Lady Tribunes to win
MCC overcomes a sluggish start to win its seventh straight.
ROCHESTER - The MCC women's basketball team overcame an ice-cold start to rebound for a 72-49 victory over Mercyhurst North east Saturday,
Bailey Hixson scored 15 and Ayana Ratliff added 14 for the Tribunes (21-3), who led 26-24 at the break before outscoring the Saints by 21 points over the final 20 minutes.
MCC began the game by converting just one of its first 21 field goal attempts. The Tribunes found their range a bit toward the end of the half, but it was enough to give them a 26-24 lead at the intermission.
The beginning of the second half was another story, as Monroe equaled the 26 points scored in the first half just eight minutes into the second. It was part of a 28-9 run that put the Tribunes in control.
Hixson scored 10 during the run, including a 3-pointer and a 3-point play to help put MCC up 54-33. Dionne Coe and Ratliff each added a 3 and seven points during the game-changing spurt.
Coe finished with nine points and six rebounds, while Tyra Jones registered eight points and nine boards. Hixson and Nubia Haynes added eight rebounds apiece for MCC, which held a 51-39 edge on the glass.
Fannisha Price chipped in with eight points and seven boards. Ratliff finished with five assists and five steals.
