BALTIMORE - The MCC women's basketball team rebounded from a poor-shooting first quarter to defeat College of Southern Maryland 85-42 at the Charm City Classic Friday evening.
The second-ranked Tribunes (9-0) were just 6-of-23 from the field in the first quarter, including 0-for-12 from beyond the arc, and led CSM 13-11 after the first 10 minutes. MCC then warmed up in the second quarter and used a 20-6 run to take a 15-point lead into the break.
Monroe added to its lead in the third before outscoring Southern Maryland 32-12 in the fourth to put the game away.
Adre'onia Coleman registered her fourth straight double-double by going for 17 points and 13 rebounds. The sophomore forward also added seven assists, four steals, and a pair of blocks.
Naje Gibson led both teams with 22 points on 11-of-15 shooting from the field to go along with six rebounds and four steals. Deja Carroll chipped in with 13 points. Chelsey Wilbern hauled down 13 boards, and Abby White had seven assists.
