MCC kicks off conference slate with rout

ROCHESTER - The second-ranked MCC women's basketball team started Western New York Athletic Conference and Region III play with a 90-39 victory over visiting Genesee Community College Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Tribunes improved to 1-0 in the regional and 17-0 overall.

A trapping, half-court defense by Monroe forced 45 Cougar turnovers, which MCC turned into 54 points. The Tribunes also held a 51-38 edge on the glass.

Adre'onia Coleman led all scoring with 25 on 10-of-16 shooting from the field. She also had seven of Monroe's 29 steals.

Deja Carroll narrowly missed out on a triple-double, accumulating 21 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists. Shanice Johnson also hit double figures with 12 points and added four rebounds, four assists, and seven steals.

Naje Gibson added eight points, Shyana McLeod hit a pair of 3's and scored six, and Kiki Bynes and Chelsey Wilbern tallied five each.
