Cipolla's Hat Trick Leads Tribunes Past Nazareth JV in 3-1 Victory
Sam Cipolla's hat trick, assisted by Sofia Martins, powered Monroe CC Women's Soccer to a 3-1 win over Nazareth JV, capping a dominant regular season.
PITTSFORD, NY - Monroe CC Women's Soccer team beat the JV Golden Flyers of Nazareth University 3-1. Sam Cipolla (Rochester, NY) and Sofia Martins (Lisbon, Portugal) elevated in this game, accounting for all the Trib's offense. Cipolla scored all three goals, all from assists by Martins, with each also having the bulk of the teams' shots.
The Tribunes came out of the gates firing as Martins found Cipolla early in the game for a quick 1-0 lead in the 12th minute. The pressure continued as Marins found Cipolla again in the 20th minute, doubling the lead, and putting the Flyers in a hole early.
In the second half, the Flyers were able to recover, scoring in the 60th minute to bring the game within a score. Nevertheless, the Tribunes were able to hold on to lead, and eventually put the game again when Cipolla earned her hat trick from Martins in the 87th minute.
All told, Cipolla and Martins accounted for 18 shots, 13 shots on goal, and all three scores in a display of dominance. Defensively, the Tribunes were sharp, as both keepers, Luciana Giraldo (Medellin, Colombia) and Clare Boesel (Palmyra, NY), with both splitting time and combining for 12 saves.
With this win, the Tribunes end their regular season with a record of 10-1-1 and a perfect record on the road. They will look to continue their winning ways in the post-season.
