Tribunes upend Jayhawks, move to 23-0
Monroe tops Jamestown in four sets.
ROCHESTER - The MCC volleyball team passed another tough test Tuesday evening, dispatching rival Jamestown Community College in four sets to improve to 23-0 on the season.
The Tribunes took the first set 25-16 before the Jayhawks rebounded to win set two 25-19. Monroe closed out the match by taking the next two, 25-16 and 25-17.
The victory also clinched the top seed in the Western New York Athletic Conference tournament, which will be played Saturday, Oct. 25 at Mercyhurst North East.
The Tribunes were paced by a pair of double-doubles. Montana Vescovi finished with 33 assists and 13 digs, and Dayle Taber added 12 digs and 11 kills.
Jamestown took control early in the fourth set in an effort to force a deciding game. The Jayhawks were up by four points early before MCC rallied to tie the set at 16.
The Tribunes then rattled off five straight, highlighted by a kill from Candice Greer to make it 21-16. JCC broke the streak with a point, but Monroe responded with another run. Up 24-17, Sarah Graham then put away a Vescovi assist to win it.
Chelsey Luce finished with 13 kills for the Tribunes. Greer was a force at the net all evening, finishing with a career-high eight blocks.
