Tribunes capture Region III title

MCC sweeps through the semifinals and finals to advance to the national tournament.

SANBORN, NY - The MCC volleyball team continued its magical season by winning the Region III, Division III championship Sunday afternoon.

The Tribunes (40-2) swept Fulton-Montgomery in the semifinals and host Niagara County Community College to win the program's second regional title and first since 2006.

Monroe will advance to the NJCAA Division III national tournament, Nov. 14-15, in Rochester, Minn.

Dayle Taber was named tournament MVP for the Tribunes. The freshman outside hitter tallied 14 kills, eight digs, and four blocks against Fulton-Montgomery and then added 20 more kills in the finals against Niagara.

Jessica Jenkins and Montana Vescovi joined Taber on the All-Tournament team. Vescovi had 55 assists in the two matches.

Monroe had its back against the wall during Saturday's pool play round. The Tribunes defeated Onondaga CC 2-1 before falling to Niagara by the same score.

MCC then had to sweep all three sets against Jamestown to advance to Sunday, and the Tribunes did just that.

Monroe defeated Fulton 25-15, 25-14, 25-18. The Tribs topped Niagara 25-16, 25-20, 25-17.
