MCC volleyball picks up three more wins

ROCHESTER - The MCC volleyball team rang up three more victories on Saturday, taking each match in a Region III pod tournament on Monagan Court.

The Tribunes (7-0 Region III, 14-0 overall) took down Cayuga, Onondaga, and Jefferson to continue its perfect start to the season.  MCC is off until next Thursday, when it hosts Genesee CC at 6 p.m. in a match that will affect both the WNYAC and regional standings.

The Tribunes opened by defeating Cayuga 25-14, 25-18, 25-16. Dayle Taber totaled 19 kills and Rose Ayala chipped in with seven kills and seven digs. Candice Greer tallied six kills and three blocks, Dana Kiselica had five digs, and Montana Vescovi dished out 33 assists to go with three blocks.

The Tribunes then defeated Onondaga 25-12, 20-25, 25-14, 25-23. The second-set loss was the first such defeat this season for Monroe.

Vescovi had 34 assists and seven digs and Rachael Nicholls had 16 digs. Taber had 17 kills, and Ayala and Greer had 13 and 12, respectively.

MCC finished off the day with a 25-18, 25-22, 25-14 sweep of Jefferson. Taber again paced the attack, finishing with 18 kills to go along with five digs. Ayala had 13 kills and nine digs and Greer tallied three kills and five digs.

Vescovi (33 assists, five digs), Kiselica (nine digs), and Nicholls (eight digs) all chipped in with strong performances as well.
