The offense was led particularly by Kylee Storch (Williamsville, NY), who had an outstanding performance with 15 kills, five service aces, and a solid hitting percentage of .263. Speaking of offense, Madalyn Robinson (Attica, NY) added nine kills and five service aces, playing a pivotal role in Monroe's aggressive serve game. Storch and Robinson's efforts were complemented by teammates like Elana Barrett (Langsville, OH), who had three kills, three aces, and four digs, and Jenna Tracy (Hilton, NY), who chipped in five kills and a block assist. Setter Sydney Martin (Chittenango, NY) was a key orchestrator for Monroe's offense, distributing 18 assists while also serving effectively with 1 ace.
Defensively, Monroe was impeccably strong, with 62 total digs, led by Robinson with 20 and O'Connor with 11. Their front line also put up resistance at the net, recording 2 solo blocks and 2 block assists. Norah O'Connor (Plain City, OH) contributed 15 assists and 11 digs, providing a stable defensive presence. Storch also contributed defensively with seven digs, showing her ability to contribute in both phases.
SUNY Broome, despite their best efforts, could not match Monroe's firepower across all four sets. Although they managed to snatch a set in the second frame, they struggled to maintain consistency against Monroe's aggressive attack and serve.
Game 2: Corning CC
Monroe swept Corning 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 26-24), taking both matches and only losing one set.
MCC demonstrated consistent control throughout the match, winning each set by a slim margin, but capitalizing on key plays to inevitably come out on top.
MCC's offense was led by standout Madalyn Robinson (Attica, NY), who delivered 11 kills from 22 attempts, a hitting percentage of .364, earning a total of 12.5 points. Her effective and consistent offense was crucial in MCC maintaining momentum throughout the match. Sydney Martin (Chittenango, NY) had a strong performance, contributing 4 service aces and 5 total points; as well as Kylee Storch with her three kills and four service aces. Elana Barrett (Langsville, OH), added 5.5 points with her solid play at the net, including a block and two block assists. Overall, Monroe spread the workload effectively, as several players made important contributions both offensively and defensively. Their serving game was sharp, with 14 total aces, though they also committed 10 service errors.
Defensively, MCC's back row, led by Storch's 14 digs, worked hard to neutralize Corning's attacks. Norah O'Connor (Plain City, OH), who posted 10 assists and 2 aces, also added 5 points despite struggling with a negative hitting percentage. Collectively, MCC's 46 points reflected a balanced team effort, and their ability to limit errors, particularly in tight moments, helped them to secure the win.
Looking Forward:
Ultimately, Monroe's consistency and leadership on the court, particularly from Robinson, Storch, and Martin, helped them claim both victories, keeping them strong in their season. With this newfound success, the Tribunes will look to build as the rematch Erie Community College on October 1st.
